Reading Tips for Kids and Parents

Kids need to train on reading skills in and out of school. This is the only way of ensuring that kids’ reading skills are sharpened to the best. There are ways that kids can improve their reading skills. Parents too, should be there to help the kids with their reading skills at home. To be discussed below are some of the reading tips for kids and also the way parents can help their kids to improve their reading skills.

Reading Tips for Kids

Here below are some of the tips that kids should follow or be guided by their parents to follow.

  • Keep Reading Short, Simple and Often Texts

The kids should read short text regularly to juggle their minds. They have shorter attention span and thus shorter texts are much more recommended.

  • Read texts with bigger fonts

Kids should read texts with bigger fonts that are visible. The texts should be in mixed colors to entice reading.

  • Use Pictorials

Reading should be aided with pictures to make the kids be able to understand things much clearly.

Reading Tips for Parents

Parents too are supposed to help their kids in reading. Here below are some of the reading tips for parents.

  • Be an Example

Parents should also work as living examples to their kids. They should also be seen reading in the house so as to help the kids to know that reading is continuous.

  • Recite Poems, Sing Songs

Though poem recitation and songs are oral, they are tools used in aiding reading among kids. Parents should recite poems and sing for their kids.

  • Choose Engaging Books

Parents should select engaging books for their kids to read. Engaging books are much easier to read and make the reading interesting.

  • Set goals for your kids

You should set reading goals for your kids. Reward them when they reach their target.

The most important tip that will keep both kids and parent active in reading is to ensure that reading is done regularly. This way, a reading habit will be developed in the house. Otherwise, the collective efforts made by the kids and the parents will determine the kids ability to learn reading fast.
